So, a large amount of the freshmen, Claire, Husam, Jared, and myself decide to go downtown after the results of the election. We're all very excited, and want to go downtown to celebrate. We get down there, and are immediately met with a WALL OF PEOPLE. They're walking towards us. They're all cheering and screaming, so we decide to join in. They start marching up (and I do mean up--it's a steep incline) Main Street. We're near the front, since we got there early, so we get to turn around after a while (bless that incline) and see how far this march goes.
IT WAS THOUSANDS OF COLLEGE STUDENTS.

A huge mob, especially for Burlington's size.. No property damage (as far as I saw), but a LOT of screaming, cheering, crying college students all marching on Main Street. We went up to the UVM campus, yelling the whole way. We stopped at their flagpoles for a while, and chanted/sang a lot of stuff. After a while, the HUGE group moved over to the UVM quad that is in between all the big dorms. Then the TV cameras came. We all stood in front of them, screaming, cheering, and singing the Star Spangled Banner for about ten minutes, before the drums kicked in. Then more yelling and cheering began. So.. perhaps the Riot of Burlington shall be on television, and I will be on it, screaming my lungs out.
I almost cried, repeatedly. There was such energy, such HOPE. Every time I looked around, and saw the enormous crowd of people around me, I was touched all over again. They all had those wide, sparkling eyes that I did; we were all so happy and looking to the future. We chanted many things, like "yes, we did," "USA," and my personal favorite, "history."
History.
We just made history, folks. We just changed the course of this country and did something that no one in this wonderful nation has ever done before. We have hope again, and I know I will cling to it with every fiber of my being. I hope you will as well. This is an amazing time to be a young adult in America.
Congratulations, President Elect Barack Obama. I couldn't be more proud of you and our country if I tried.

wow. I heard there was some sort of a gathering, but I had no idea it was so massive. I'm jealous that you got to be a part of that.
Yeah, I will never forget that night or the energy present in it as long as I live. :)
